Music Group - Torrington
TORRINGTON MUSIC GROUP
We have been fortunate to have two guitarists on
most Sundays, John Truan and James Laaveld, James is
now away at college and his brother Johan has kindly
offered to take his place. At various times of the
year John Buckland also plays and we have the luxury of
three guitars!
On the rare occasions when there are no guitarists
Tim Laaveld and Sandra Boycott step in to play the
keyboard.
The old organ (which had been donated) was beyond
repair and so a new keyboard was purchased, it's fairly
basic but adequate and especially useful for funerals
and weddings.
There are six regular members of the choir and we meet to practise at least once a month, more often for the bigger festivals. We find the congregation sing well and seem to enjoy some of the newer hymns that we have introduced as well as the old favourites. We choose the hymns for the Sunday from those recommended and as our repertoire increases we usually find some that we know.
We always finish our practises with a choir prayer,
this was given to us by a former member and we are
happy to pass this on should anyone like a copy.
Mindful of the fact that some of the congregation
are in the senior age group we try to include at least
one much loved traditional hymn in the weekly selection
and consider requests for special occasions.
If anyone would like to join our happy group they
would be most welcome.
