Prayer Group - Torrington

Parish Prayer Group Report By Linda Escott

The Prayer Group has continued to flourish this past year. Meetings are held on a monthly or bi-monthly basis at members' homes on a Thursday or Friday evening.

While many are based in the Torrington area there are members who live further afield.

The topics for discussion are chosen by the hosts who prepare the readings, prayers and hymns. Some of the meetings have been prompted by feasts celebrated, by articles read or recent events.

The symposium at Exeter gave us a good source of material, and talks from it were used, via the Internet, to promote discussion and as a focus for our prayers. Visits to Walsingham and other shrines have been used as subjects of inspiration and lead to two meetings using the Rosary as our prayers.

We take the opportunity to ask for special prayers for ourselves and others. After the talks and prayers we share a simple meal prepared by the hosts and we enjoy socializing.

Firm friendships and better understanding have been the results of this. We hope to go forward with the Prayer Group during the next 12 months.

We welcome new members.
